Questions about moving in Richmond
The things people ask us most — about coverage, access, the park, packing, storage, insurance and moving abroad. Not covered here? Just ask.
Which parts of Richmond do you cover?
The whole of Richmond upon Thames — the town and Richmond Hill (TW9, TW10), Kew, East Sheen (SW14), Petersham and Ham, plus Mortlake and North Sheen towards Barnes. St Margarets over the river we cover lightly, alongside our neighbours.
Can you manage a move up on Richmond Hill or in the conservation lanes?
Yes — that access is exactly what we plan for. We look at the Hill gradient, the parking along the Terrace and the narrow lanes off the Green before the day, and choose the right vehicle so nothing is improvised on moving morning.
Do you handle antiques, art and pianos?
We do, and Richmond homes carry plenty of them. Fine and fragile pieces are wrapped with proper materials and carried by people who do it every week, with cover confirmed in writing. Tell us what’s going and we’ll plan the handling around it.
How do you work out the price?
From a proper survey — in person or by video — of what’s actually moving and the access at both ends. You then get a clear written quote. We don’t give a number over the phone and hope, and we never show a price before we understand the house.
Do you move offices and businesses too?
Yes — offices and studios around the town centre, the Quadrant and the riverside, planned around your trading hours, with IT handled and reconnected and storage for anything surplus.
Do you move abroad, or only around Richmond?
Both. Alongside local removals we run planned road moves from Richmond to France, Italy, Spain and Portugal, with the customs paperwork handled for you — surveyed and packed the same way as a local job.
How far ahead should we book?
The earlier the better, particularly through the summer and around the busy Kew and riverside weekends. As soon as you have a likely date, get in touch and we’ll hold it and start planning the access.
Does Richmond Park affect a move — the gates, the deer, the road closures?
It can. The park roads have their own hours and gate arrangements, and during the deer culls and rut certain routes and gates are restricted. It doesn’t stop a move — we simply plan the route around it, and we’ll flag it if your address sits near a park gate.
Do you pack for us, or do we pack ourselves?
Whichever you prefer. We can pack the whole home with proper materials and a labelled inventory, pack only the fine and fragile pieces, or supply materials for you to do it yourself. Unpacking and placement at the other end is available too.
Can you take apart and rebuild furniture?
Yes — beds, wardrobes, flat-pack units, table legs and the like. We dismantle what needs it to get pieces out of a narrow period staircase safely, and reassemble them in the right room at the other end.
What about a mansion block or a new riverside development with a porter and a bay?
Common around the town centre and the river. We book the lift and loading bay ahead of time, check any porter or concierge rules, and time the load so we’re not competing with other residents for the one bay.
Are you insured?
Yes, our moves are fully insured, and we confirm the cover in writing with your quote. For anything unusually valuable — a painting, a piano, antiques — tell us in advance so it’s handled and covered appropriately.
Do you do smaller jobs, or only whole houses?
Smaller jobs too — a single room, a few pieces, a student move or a careful antique collection. That’s our man-and-van service, with a driver and a van sized honestly to the job and the same handling standard as a full move.
How quickly will you come back with a quote?
Once we have your details and, where needed, have surveyed the move, we’ll send a written quote promptly — usually within a working day or two. The more you tell us up front, the quicker it is.
What happens with customs when we move to Europe?
We handle it. A UK-to-EU household move now needs the right paperwork — a detailed inventory, transit and customs documents, and proof of residence for relief where it applies. We prepare and manage that as part of the move.
Can you move us from somewhere other than Richmond?
Yes. Richmond is our base, but for European moves in particular we collect from across the UK — London, Birmingham, Manchester, Bristol, Edinburgh and beyond. Just tell us the pickup address.
